CROP RESIDUE BURNING AUTHORIZATION (MR 77/93)
This is the message for the 2024 crop year for all zones in Manitoba under sections 4 and 5 of the regulation that refers to the period of August 1 to November 15.
5(1) The minister may in respect of any day or days in the period beginning August 1 and ending November 15 of the same year, by order, establish for a municipality a burning period or periods that begin not earlier than 11:00 a.m. and end not later than two hours after sunset of same day.

In summary:
Nighttime burning of crop residues is banned year-round.
Safe burning practices, including adequate fire-guarding and proper supervision, must be followed.
Smoke from any crop residue fire must NOT obscure any public roadway or create problems for neighboring residents.
Note that burning in the “Burning Permit Areas” requires a permit issued by Manitoba Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources. Permits issued by the City of Winnipeg are required for burning within the boundaries of the City. Any permits issued by other local authorities are also required. Please consult your local RM office for any other restrictions.
Caution is advised when burning crop residues.
